I worked with Alan for several years at Fuddruckers and we’ve kept in touch for nearly twenty years through a mutual mentorship. We share the same business philosophy, focusing on the People, Quality, and Profits triangle, with an emphasis on starting with the right people. Alan is always the one to present a different perspective in decision-making, but he supports the team’s final choice and is decisive when needed. He excels at managing change by setting expectations, explaining the reasons, ensuring understanding, and holding people accountable. His ability to develop culture while maintaining accountability is rare and embraced by everyone he leads.
I’ve known Alan Watts for over 25 years, both professionally and personally, having worked closely together at Fuddruckers when he was a District Manager and I was Senior VP of Marketing. We were tasked with developing a new generation of Fuddruckers in Tucson, and even after leaving the company, we’ve maintained a strong relationship.
Throughout my career, I’ve focused on creating exceptional customer experiences and staying true to a brand’s unique identity. Achieving this balance of customer delight and profitability, especially in the restaurant industry, requires strong leadership and discipline—qualities Alan mastered. He worked with me to develop a branded operations and marketing strategy for Fuddruckers, making it profitable while ensuring customer satisfaction.
Alan’s use of Six Sigma and Kaizen principles, along with his passion for leadership and customer service, helped create high-performing teams and a positive, guest-focused culture. He is a dedicated professional, and I highly recommend him without hesitation.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing and working with Alan Watts for over 25 years, and he has been an invaluable mentor to me. He hired me as a young operator at Fuddruckers and quickly saw my potential, offering guidance and coaching that greatly enhanced my leadership and management skills. Alan provided insightful book recommendations and always led by example, teaching us how to manage teams effectively.
His deep understanding of financials, including P&L management and cost control, was instrumental in driving profitability for the region. It’s no surprise he was promoted to SVP of Operations. Alan’s mentorship has been pivotal in shaping my career, and I highly recommend him to any organization seeking to improve leadership, processes, or profitability.
I first met Alan when I came on board as the COO for Magic restaurants with the Fuddruckers/KooKooRoo divisions.
Alan is a great leader that enjoys developing high performance teams at all levels. He is very fixated on the latter knowing that this is where high performance as out-of-your presence exists.
Alan loves the creativity that comes with menuing. I put him in charge of R&D where we saw companywide great results in Guest satisfaction and financial performance.
A great problem solver, period. If I had a tall obstacle; I would want Alan on the team that was tasked with resolution.
